3 tips to get in the frame.

This is a friendly PSA from your local family photog:

You do not show up on your camera roll nearly as often as you should.

Scroll for three simple tips to get in the frame with your kids.

Big whoop if you gained a few quarantine pounds, your hair’s a mess and your eyebrows are begging to be waxed. You're not alone (👋🏻hello, it's me!) Guess what? Your loved ones and your kids don't care!

GET. IN. THE. FRAME.

(Also, if you are feeling fit and strong, are digging your hair and don't care about overgrown eyebrows, I love that too! Still, read on and get in that frame!)

ONE

Reflections.

Mirrors, rearview mirrors, windows, anything shiny, really! The lesson of the day is to let go of perfection and just take the damn picture 🙂.

TWO

Shadows.

Shadows smooth over the details and focus on what's important- The scale of our bodies, her little hand reaching for mine.

Shadows can be such wonderful and forgiving storytellers. Look for them and snap a photo of what you find.

THREE

Stick a limb in there…

(yup, I'm serious!)

The inclusion of my hand here adds visual interest, and a storytelling aspect to an otherwise lackluster image. My daughter took some of her first steps after this shot and I'm glad I'm in it 👏🏻.
This is an unexpected way to get in the frame, but try it out and see what you come up with...because YOU were there too.

I'd love to see how you use these simple tips, so reply here or tag me on social media so I can cheer you on and congratulate you on finally becoming a part of the story you are writing through photos.

One last thing…

ASK whoever you're with to snap a pic of you.

My wife doesn't often think to do so, and I wouldn't have these unless I'd asked.

I'm so happy I did, and you will be too.

There is no shame in that game!
